Life's a Beach

Drive went fine last night to restaurant. No roundabouts to manage. Actually haven't seen a roundabout at all.

Restaurant was called Longhorns and they had a "tip the cop" event happening. Basically you got greeted at the door by several in uniform sheriffs and lots more were inside serving. It was a fundraiser for the Florida Special Olympics. I have never seen so many guns in one place.

Got talking to a local sheriff out of uniform and conversation got around to guns. He always has a gun on him 24/7. Told us civilians are allowed to carry them on their person with license or have a gun in their car without a license as long as it takes two moves to retrieve gun. So you can have it in glove box but not under seat. He was extremely surprised that police don't carry guns at all times back in NZ. He stated that most people have guns, that's what makes America America. He reckoned if they were ever banned he would become a outlaw!

Hit the road this morning for Daytona Beach, Florida. Drove through a storm again. It's not so much the torrential rain it's the spray from the vehicles. Trucks the worse that makes it so hard to see. But all good and got here safe and sound.

Went straight to Daytona International Speedway. No racing scheduled while we here unfortunately but we did a tour and got to drive around a lap of the track! Before you motor heads get excited, it was 25 miles a hour top speed sitting in a open trailer thingy. But good enough for us. Hard to believe that they get crowds of 260,000 there! It's HUGE.

Dinner at a diner tonight. I tell ya we are being ripped off in NZ. Bread, soups, mains, 4 beers and a tip 35.00. No kidding! We ordered a main and beers all the rest just comes with meal. Julie - you and I will be doing some laps when I get home!

Just been down to the beach and rode a ferris wheel. How American we are becoming. I love this country!

Got another big day planned for tomorrow. Forgotten what a sleep in is.
